OSTEN — NEUE BITTERFELDER WEGE
An international festival in Bitterfeld-Wolfen
Over a period of two weeks in the summer of 2022, the festival aims, via numerous artistic contributions, to make “the East” visible. Starting from a feeling – “East” as an identity and an attribute, as pride and prejudice, the festival will explore the meaning of “East” in our times. Special focus will be placed on the history of labour and the traces that this history has drawn into the landscape. These traces are clearly visible on the festival grounds in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Through the visual arts, projects of encounter, performances and theatre, the festival aims to tell stories of labour, transformation, upheaval and future.
Performances and guest performances will take place in the rooms of the Kulturpalast Bitterfeld, which are open to the public, and in other public places in the city. They will be supplemented by readings, discussions and smaller events. Further exhibition and performance venues will be created on the adjacent site of the Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen (Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park), where ultra-modern facilities are located in the immediate vicinity of vacant halls and buildings from 120 years of industrial history.
